I agree with the criticism of trades unions in this discussion. I am a member of GMB and can say that I am no longer a lone voice, as people, mainly but not all women, are speaking up. A number of women are calling for change and are making some progress at branch and region levels.
Great podcast as ever. As we know, language has been erased, misrepresented & weaponised throughout this supposed 'debate'. I know from speaking with many on the periphery, that they believe conversion therapy to be bad & therefore support it being banned, due to not understanding its meaning. Once they do, without exception in my experience, they change opinion to it not being banned. I have signed & sent the letter you signposted to, but what else can be done, with speed, to change the misconception of what conversion therapy actually is, in this context?
Interesting conversation. The Sex Matters podcast feed isn't being updated though, so subscribers, like me , won't know that the new episode is available unless they come across it elsewhere.
Local Gov will have similar policies of full inclusion, which by proxy won't fully protect women. It's policies in many public institutions governing how people must behave
Jennifer Melle’ said she’d use his chosen name, but couldn't say she/her, due to her religious & cultural beliefs, plus I think it was catheter related, which is very different for men & women. She was respectful.
Every one should be treated with dignity, the patient being treated was also from a high security prison, a convicted sex offender of the worst possible kind, who then decided they are a woman. And yet, a nurse doing her duty & medically caring for someone, then having suffered such racial abuse whilst he lunched toward her too. How on earth she was suspended is simply beyond me. The NHS is crying out for good nurses, yet that's an example of how they’re treating them? Suspension & disciplinary procedures, do serious damage to people, even more so when they are not needed. Second to the damage, it's costly to any org too - suspending & disciplinary’s cost money, & it’s public money that they are wasting
