I’m one of the witnesses against the corporation’s illegal position. Please let us know when the case comes up as I’d like to attend to support. Thank you, as always, for all that you’re doing
I work on a town market. The toilet facilities are underground in the centre of the square. The whole place is awaiting 'regeneration' so it's ready to be condemned basically. It's creepy down there. There are dirty stairs with a corner at the bottom. The gents is directly at the bottom with the ladies next door. There are code buttons on the doors so members of the public can't use them. The men's code is different from the ladies.
I've noticed over the last 6 months the Green grocer (who is a 6 foot scarecrow with wire shoulder length hair started at first wearing a pair of dangley earrings, then bangles, then a floor length skirt, then a frilly bow around the neck. (to be fair, it's a fairly cool look for a man who's pushing 70).Then another dubious looking younger 'female' showed up. Fairly modestly dressed, long hair but clearly a man.
You know where this is going..
On Saturday I went down the stairs to the toilet and there was the younger of the two standing brushing 'her' hair. (I've never seen any other woman doing anything other than wash their hands and get out as its horrible down there).
I did a double take on entry and said 'Are you a woman?' to which she replied 'Yes I'm a trans woman.' I said 'You're a man. This is a single sex space for women and you shouldn't be in here.' He said 'I'm sorry you feel like that.' and carried on brushing his long (greasy) hair.
I thought fuck this. I'll go to Costa (where the toilets are gender neutral!) I'd taken a couple of steps up the stairs and I thought 'hang on. I need a piss and that's my toilet.' So I went back opened the door and stood holding it open so neither of us felt threatened and said 'Look. This is a dubious enough space for women as it is without finding men in it. You shouldn't be in here. There are gender neutral toilets provided in the cafe over the road.' At which point 'she' stormed out red faced and clearly upset.
And I went to the toilet. The End.. I wish. Of course there will be comeback.
I told my boss yesterday. He's emailed the market management, the market management don't want to touch it. 'It's a grey area. I'm not getting involved' etc.
'It's not a grey area. It's illegal for anyone other than women to use a space provided for women. There are gender neutral toilets across the road. All you need to do is put a laminated bit of paper on the door saying so. And change the code.'
This bullshit kept me awake last night so sorry to offload here but. I have nowhere to turn with this. Our only gender critical councillor was hounded out two years ago. She's just won thousands in comp. But in the meantime, the council use pronouns on all communication which sends a clear message that although gender critical beliefs are protected, they're not welcomed.
I am so sorry and I applaud your bravery in not backing down. These are OUR spaces and men have no right to them. Good men stay out so that bad men stand out. The men who enter into our spaces, no matter how they identify, are BAD men. At best they are mentally ill and selfish, at worst they are violent and predatory. The sooner the world wakes up to this reality and stops centering the feelings of men over the safety of women the better.
Ok so today I found out I'm not the first woman to complain about 'their' presence in there. And the old guy only uses the men's loo. He's a good one. He's never gonna bother with hormones or surgery I don't think. He's a simple guy who just likes wearing skirts and earrings. There's a possibility he's been turned onto this by the youngster. Who knows.
But I will be talking to the other ladies on the market - some of whom are religiously inclined and may be self-excluding because of the hair-brushing gaslighter.
All I want is a sign on the door saying 'This toilet is for the use of women only. Gender neutral toilets are available across the street. ' Both Gail's and Costa have gender neutral toilets.
I hate them personally.
I've had to use them when our toilets are out of use. I just don't dig coming face to face with a man going straight in after me (especially if I've had a poo!) and him potentially enjoying the fact that the seat's still warm.
It has crossed my mind that there are sanitary bins somewhere in this equation too and a lot of men are just filthy perverts.
Gender neutral toilets are now quite commonplace because men in dresses need them. They have already robbed us of privacy and dignity in this respect.
Thanks for the update.
Fingers crossed.

I don't think there are many transgender muslims…

The sign says 'Women Only' Seems very straight forward to me since the Supreme Court Ruling.
Instead of spending £1 million on messing about with the changing rooms & showers why don't they dig a separate pond for Mixed swimming?
Word games: "trans women are women"... persists despite the Supreme Court's "clarification" of the term "women" as meaning biological sex.
Perhaps the sign should read FEMALES ONLY--harder for the trans lobby to appropriate, though they've tried to claim "female" too.
There already is a mixed sex pond
Wow. These people treat women's spaces like they exist solely to validate their fantasies.
There's nothing says 'I'm a man' more clearly than having no respect for women's boundaries.
Nothing like an entitled fetishistic narcissistic man to ruin things for everyone

Do they not have lawyers?
